Dear Mz Manners,

My friend and his wife are stuck out in the far, far outreaches of a major metropolitan city. I worry that when they return, they won't be hip anymore.

What can I do?

Worried about Balding "Herry" in Chicago

Dear Worried,

I am sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but your friends stopped being hip the day they decided to move to the far, far outreaches of a metropolitan area. It is very nice of you to worry about when they move back to the city, but chances are this will never happen. I know it is sad to watch as your friends become unhip (and apparently bald) but all you can do now is hope that you don’t one day suffer the same fate. Don’t let your friends drag you down with them!

Thanks for visiting the blog. Let us know if I can help you with anything else!

Your friend,

Mz Manners

    Dear Worried,

Are you sure you don't want to move out to the far outreaches of society also? I mean the commute would be a drag but nature provides such a wonderful landscape...and it is shrinking! Get out of the city while you can. Enjoy the grass and the trees!

    Dear Nature Girl,

This is a very good point. Perhaps it is those of us in the city who are the unhip. I mean, some of us have actually had nervous breakdowns for God's sake! Maybe the best cure for city hip-ness (or unhip-ness) is a good roll in the grass! (And by grass I mean marijuana.)

    Thank you Nature Girl!

Hipness is a state of mind, dudes -- not a residence. (good clothes help too...)

Is that a euphemism for the suburbs? Suburbia sucks.

    Dear NewYorkMoments:

Oh yes Suburbia SUCKS with a capital SUCKS. I meant where the farms haven't been subdivided and the trees block out the sun type of outeaches of society.

Suburbia is it's own universe, which unfortunatley the city dwellers have to venture through to roll in the grass - as Mz. Manners says.
